On Monday 10th January 2011, a group from FLAG took part in a coach trip to Milton Keynes Theatre to watch this year’s pantomime – ‘Dick Whittington’. The pantomime kept everyone entertained with its live band, sensational songs, dazzling dance routines, glitzy costumes, impressive and eye-catching set designs, plenty of humour and slapstick comedy and even a 3D projection sequence. The cast included television legend Dirk Benedict as King Rat, ‘Gavin and Stacey’ star Joanna Page as Alice Fitzwarren, and also ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ stars Stavros Flatley. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining evening, and everyone went home happy. We’d like to thank Nick and the Committee for all their hard work in organising this event.
In March, FLAG held its AGM combined with a Fish and Chip Supper and Raffle at Priory Methodist Church in Bedford. This event was very well attended and the attendees were informed about the recent changes to FLAG.
In July, several FLAG members went to the Beefeater restaurant at Priory Marina for a meal. Everybody had a great time and the food was delicious!
In September, a group of FLAG members went to Great Yarmouth for the day. We started off with a tour round the SeaLife Centre then split into groups to see the sights. Everyone had a very enjoyable time!
Thank you to Lance and Carole Mason who have written this article about the FLAG Christmas Meal. Christmas shopping was complete, decorations were hung, the Christmas tree was in pride of place and Monday 16 December was approaching fast! The FLAG Christmas lunch was eagerly anticipated by lots of FLAG members. Everyone made their way to The White Horse in Newnham Avenue, found the tables and seated themselves whilst joining in lots of seasonal conversations and catching up with friends. Malcolm, Freda and Ros were happy to help sort drinks for everyone who needed assistance as once seated, it wasn’t always easy to get to the bar! Lively conversation continued across the tables whilst lots of music was provided by several pub regulars who were in the middle of a 24-hour music event raising funds for the ‘Help the Heroes’ charity. Once lunch was served, the tables suddenly seemed quieter as the food was delicious and everyone tucked in and enjoyed their meals. It was great that the music still kept us entertained whilst eating. Crackers were pulled and jokes shared and a good time was had by all. Thanks go once again to The White Horse, who always look after us extremely well and also to the FLAG committee for organizing the event.
Eat 'N' Bowl in St Neots is, for the most part, exactly what it says on the tin. The 16- lane bowling alley set across two floors offers bowlers a real party atmosphere along with great food. A group of FLAG members found Eat 'N' Bowl a great place to go, with its spacious seating area, along with full food facilities and a fully licensed bar.
